Meet Lisa Weir and Dalia Shankman, founders of Ally. A lockable, food-safe storage box, that's as stylish as it is functional. Perfect for keeping your cannabis and accessories out of the reach of wandering hands.
What inspired you to start your company?
Our light bulb moment happened around the time when cannabis became legal in Canada. This led to a spike in consumption which then, unfortunately, led to a whole lot of headlines about kids accidentally getting into their parents' edibles. As moms and users, we thought to ourselves - there must be a solution...yet, there wasn't anything on the market that checked off all the boxes: safe, functional, well-designed, discreet, food-safe (for edibles), airtight, and premium quality. Cue Ally - The first-ever lockable storage solution that is versatile, looks sleek, and keeps your goods away from wandering hands. It's perfect for cannabis products, medications, supplements...even jewelry, passports, sexual wellness products and so much more. Lock your contents inside and enjoy peace of mind.
What do you love about your job?
First and foremost, we love providing a solution to an important problem. We read every single comment, message, and review from our customers. Hearing real feedback from real users who are complete strangers is the best part of what we do. We're so happy that this once was an idea and is now a part of people's everyday lives.
What are some of the challenges you face working in the cannabis industry?
When you are advertising anything related to cannabis, even something as innocent as a safe storage solution, you have to be extremely cautious with regulations. Any small risk can get your brand page flagged and even banned on social networks. We had to make sure our product was extremely versatile and not only geared toward the cannabis industry. It's an amazing product to store really anything that shouldn't be left out - medications, supplements, adaptogens, sexual wellness products and many other private items.
What’s your cannabis ritual?
Ahhh, the good ol' days. I (Dalia) am currently pregnant with my second child so I have yet to get back into what was once a daily routine. For me, cannabis was always a tool for winding down after a long day. After dinner, I would get cozy on the couch and roll up a nice little joint. But I have to say that now, I would be more inclined to incorporate infused edibles and oils - which are a bit more low-key and controlled. I’m excited about this new cannabis culture with so many consumptions options and the rise micro-dosing.
Which other brands (cannabis or not) do you love and admire?
In terms of cannabis brands, we love companies such as Sackville & Co and Laundry Day, where strong beautiful design is at the core of everything they sell. In the non-cannabis space, we love innovators like Intelligent Change who develop products around purpose and being the best version of ourselves.
